Moritz Dealerships is partnering with Aledo ISD to enhance the Aledo High School gymnasium experience through a leadership gift for new digital scoreboards in the 25-year-old facility.
During an away basketball game last season while admiring an opposing team’s state-of-the-art digital media board technology, Bearcat basketball parents April Isbell and Kyle Edgington began to talk about how Aledo could benefit from the same technology. Edgington, new to the Fort Worth and Aledo community as the new chief development officer at Cook Children’s Health Foundation, offered to help make it happen.
“Relocating your kids to new schools, especially a new high school, can be difficult,” Edgington said. “Any fears we had quickly disappeared by how welcoming Aledo students are. The kids are very special here.
“Through my work at Cook Children’s, I’ve met many generous families who are happy to invest in the young people in this community,” Edgington continued. “Any credit I take for these scoreboards is being able to connect our great donors to our great kids.”
Edgington only had to make one call - to longtime AISD supporter Moritz Dealerships - and the answer was a resounding, “Yes!”
Managing partners with Moritz Dealerships Matt Ducote and Jim Hardick agreed that this was an opportunity they simply could not pass up.
Through this partnership, the AHS main gym will be outfitted with a new double-sided centerhung structure featuring two 20 foot by 7 foot digital displays plus two additional 12 foot by 7 foot digital displays on the walls and the control systems to run all of the boards. The project, which includes the removal and disposal of the existing scoreboards and centerhung structure, will modernize the AHS main gym to allow the district to engage fans with customized scores, video content, advertisements and more.
“Aledo High School was built in 2001, and the gymnasium has seen little improvement since then,” Aledo ISD Superintendent Dr. Susan Bohn said.
“This facility enhancement will bring us into the modern era of the gymnasium experience for the hundreds of students who compete and perform in the main AHS gym, as well as their fans–the support system that always shows up for them there.”
“Moritz has supported our students and schools for decades, and we value their continued partnership in support of our students,” Bohn said. “A big thank you to Moritz for their generosity!”
The district, which is putting $10,000 toward the project, has already begun work and anticipates the work being completed in time for the all-staff Welcome Back event in early August and the first varsity home volleyball game in mid-August.
